What The Deuce Are You Staring At!?!

A Collection of Interpretive Work Inspired by Family Guy

In an industry first, Fox commissioned this series of original art as a celebration of the passion of the "Family Guy" fans and the creative spirit embodied in the show.

Twenty-one artists of the Lowbrow Pop Movement have taken the show's characters, design and sensibility as a starting point and literally let their imaginations run wild.

The result is a wholly original and eclectic series of images in a variety of media that bear the unmistakable "Family Guy" imprint through the prism of each artist's entirely unique style and perspective.

Artist Info:

Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Fresno, Luke Chueh's (pronounced CHU) formal art education began and ended at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he earned a BS in Art & Design (Graphic Design concentration). Before graduating, he was employed by the Ernie Ball Company, working in-house as designer/illustrator. While there, Chueh was responsible for several award winning designs and was featured in the design annuals of Communication Arts and Print Magazine. At the same time, he also created, produced, wrote, designed, edited and published "E.X.P.," a 'zine dedicated to the "Intelligent Dance Music (IDM)" genre. In 2003, Chueh moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in design. However, a lack of employment opportunities left him resorting to painting as a way to keep busy (a habit he picked up while attending Cal Poly). He got his start when Los Angeles' premiere underground art show, Cannibal Flower, invited him to show at their monthly events. Since then, Chueh has quickly worked his way up the ranks of the LA art scene, establishing himself as an artist not to be ignored. Employing minimal color schemes, simple animal characters and a seemingly endless list of ill-fated situations, Chueh stylistically balances cute with brute, walking the fine line between comedy and tragedy.

Inspired by early American portraiture that often depicted children as small adults in an idealized new land, her work focused on idealized characters that parallel this vision within their own sense of post-apocalyptic conformity, uniquely documenting their own stories in a mysterious brave new world.

Artist Info:

"Having grown up on the West Coast most of my life and coming from a family of uber 'antique' collectors and artists, my eclectic upbringing was filled with a wide range of 'Pop' ephemera. Many of those inspirations now show up in my work and stem from the backdrop of my childhood. The Subject of my paintings is a world of side-show icons, deviant Animalia and masked glorified cartoon alter egos. I utilize these icons and character cultures as antithetical counterparts to what we are lead to believe as being innocent and socially acceptable. Although misfits on the surface, a sense of relation is understood, secret from the public - we are all misfits; hiding behind animated personas, odd and beautifully unusual. Who is it that we relate to? The lonely little boy hiding in a bear suit, the evil lustful pool-hall wolf, the sexualized little girl who secretly wants more. The envirionment and its limited population are meant to conjure these questions, the viewer are confronted with finding their own answers." Brandt Elling Peters is a self taught artist currently living in Tampa, FL with his wife, fellow artist, Kathie Olivas and their two dogs Bailey and Diego. He has been exhibiting in numerous galleries across the US, Canada and recently Europe.

Artist Info:

A concoction of the City of Angels, a mutation if you will, of this disgustingly, beautiful city. Or so it seems sometimes.... It's not all glamorous here in Hollywood, quite the opposite most of the time, yet never boring. So how does this play into my career as an artist? Well, it doesn't, just wanted to get it off my chest! At 19, I was blessed with a job as an animator on 'the Simpsons,' you know, them yellow people.. Now at 30, I STILL work on the show, except I do illustration and toy design, for the show of course. Long time with Homer, I tell ya! So for the last two years or so, I submerged myself in Photoshop and Painter, trying to get somewhat a grip on them. My eventual goal is to become a concept designer ala Ryan Church, Feng Zshu, the masters of their field. I know I have a ways, but I have much inspiration to draw upon!

"Megaroach" by Joe Vaux

©Copyright Twentieth Century Fox

Canvas Giclee $250

14" x 11"

Canvas Edition 350

Each print is hand-numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Artist Info:

The only son of two talented artists, Joe Vaux learned the joys of creation at an early age. He has been honing his skills for the past 15 years - first receiving a BFA from Syracuse and then working with the many wonderfully creative folks of the animatino world. Joe has worked on everything from Spawn to Harold and the Purple Crayon to his current position on Family Guy. Although he has always been pursuing his own projects, he has only been showing his work for the past six years. Joes' work is truly imaginative. He is able to create entire worlds around the simplest of things. The worlds he creates are dark, but playful at the same time. You can look over and over at his paintings and still find new inhabitants. Joe's work has appeared in many galleries on the West Coast.
